Denmark
Mohamed Sidati, Minister Counselor to the SADR Presidency,
accompanied by Sidi Mohamed Omar, Polisario Front representative in
Denmark, conducted a working visit in Denmark. The Saharawi
delegation met representatives of political groups and they were
received by the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee. They talked
with several NGOs before taking part in the inaugural meeting of the
Danish Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi people. Those who
spoke with the Saharawi minister expressed their attachment to a
peaceful, fair and lasting solution to the conflict in Western
Sahara, based on the self-determination of the Saharawi
people.(SPS)

27th anniversary of the Madrid Agreements
In a statement the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights defenders in
"Western Sahara under Moroccan control", denounced the Madrid Accords
signed 27 years ago (full
text)
by Spain, Morocco and Mauritania and called on the Spanish government
to revoke them. It condemns the annexation of Western Sahara by
Morocco, and asks the UN to organise a referendum of
self-determination on the basis of the UN/OAU peace plan of 1991 and
the Houston Agreement of 1997.
Commenting on the attacks on human rights in the occupied
territories, the Collective enumerates a series of demands to appeal
finally to the Spanish people to put pressure on their government to
shed light on the fate of disappeared Saharawis and to support the
campaign launched by BIRDHSO. (Press

Letter of a Saharawi detained in the prison of Laayoune
In a letter sent to France Libertés Fondation Danellle
Mitterrand, a Saharawi describes his brutal arrest and abduction, on
24 September last, by four plain clothes policemen. Handcuffed and
blindfolded with shackles on his feet, he is taken with two other
prisoners to the general police station where he was insulted, beaten
several times, threatened with sodomy. On 28 September, after four
days of this treatment, the three are interrogated by the judicial
police. They are asked to sign a report in which they admit to have
tried to create a criminal band in order to burn down a police
station. All sign it under duress. Since this date the group has been
held in appalling conditions in the central prison of Laayoune. They
appeal for people to come and verify the conditions of detention, "if
the visit is authorised."(Letter)

Japan
The ambassador of Japan, Akira Urabe, announced in Algiers that his
government had granted 600,000 US dollars to the World Food Program
for the benefit of Saharawi refugees. "Our government is concerned to
supply all the aid needed by refugees throughout the world and more
particularly to the Saharawi people, who have been fighting since
1975 for their independence", the ambassador emphasised. "On this
subject the position of Japan remains unchanged, namely it argues for
a settlement in the shortest possible time scale of the Saharawi
conflict through the organisation of a referendum based on the UN
resolutions and which will express the real will of the Saharawi
people", he added. (SPS)
