Continua la represión marroquí en el Sahara Occidental

56 SAHARAUIS HERIDOS EN VIOLENTOS ENFRENTAMIENTOS CON LAS FUERZAS DE OCUPACIÓN MARROQUIES

 

La Ciudad ocupada de Smara en el Sahara Occidental fue escenario de violentos enfrentamientos entre la población saharaui y las fuerzas de represión marroquíes ayer miércoles 1 de marzo de 2000, donde fueron heridas cerca de 70 personas.

Los enfrentamientos fueron el resultado de la intervención represiva de las fuerzas militares de ocupación marroquíes contra una manifestación pacífica de estudiantes saharauis, para reclamar la puesta en libertad de sus conciudadanos encarcelados desde los acontecimientos ocurridos en septiembre pasado.

La manifestación fue iniciada por los estudiantes a través de una marcha popular, a la que se sumaron posteriormente miles de ciudadanos saharauis. Las fuerzas de policía y las llamadas fuerzas auxiliares marroquíes iniciaron una represión sangrienta que derivó en enfrentamientos feroces y violentos entre las dos partes.

En estos enfrentamientos se utilizaron porras y armas por parte de los marroquíes, y los saharauis usaron palos y piedras como único medio de lucha en la "Intifada saharaui" de las Zonas Ocupadas.

Como consecuencia de casi 10 horas de enfrentamientos, 56 saharauis fueron heridos de diferente gravedad y 13 agentes marroquíes, entre ellos dos en estado grave.

Los jóvenes saharauis causaron daños materiales a las propiedades de la administración marroquí y quemaron una furgoneta del cuerpo de policía.

Varios testigos han confirmado la llegada de refuerzos militares ayer por la tarde con el fin de incrementar las acciones represivas en la ciudad sagrada de Smara, y se han visto 8 camiones llenos de soldados de "Les Forces Auxiliaires" entrar en los barrios.

Estos acontecimientos coinciden con muchas otras manifestaciones de saharauis en otras ciudades, sobre todo en las universidades, para exigir la libertad de los presos políticos.

También coinciden con la celebración de XXIV Aniversario de la proclamación de la República Arabe Saharaui Democr·tica, lo que se reflejó claramente en los himnos y eslóganes repetidos por los ciudadanos saharauis durante las manifestaciones.

Moroccan repression in the Western Sahara continues:

56 SAHARAWIS HURT IN VIOLENT CONFRONTATIONS WITH THE MORROCCAN FORCES OF OCCUPATION

The occupied City of Smara in the Western Sahara was the scene of violent confrontations between the Saharawi population and the Moroccan forces of repression yesterday Wednesday 1 of March of 2000, when as many as 70 people could have been hurt.

The confrontations were the result of the repressive intervention of the Moroccan military forces of occupation against a peaceful manifestation by Saharawi students, to demand the release of their fellow citizens jailed since the events in last September.

The demonstrations were initiated by the students through a popular march, joined later by thousands of Saharawi citizens. The forces of police and the so- called Moroccan auxiliary forces initiated a bloody repression that lead to ferocious and violent confrontations between the two parts.

In these confrontations clubs and weapons were used by the Moroccans, and Saharawis used wooden sticks and stones as only the only means in the "Saharawi Intifada" of the Occupied Zones.

As a result of almost 10 hours of confrontations, 56 Saharawis were hurt in different degrees of gravity and 13 Moroccan agents, among them two in serious state.

The young Saharawis caused material damages to the properties of the Moroccan administration and burned a van of the police body.

Several witnesses have confirmed the arrival of military reinforcements yesterday evening with the purpose of increasing the repressive activities in the sacred city of Smara, and 8 full trucks of soldiers of "Les Forces Auxiliers" have been seen entering the neighbourhoods.

These events coincide with many other demonstrations carried out by Saharawis in other cities, mainly in the universities, in order to demand the freedom of the political prisoners.

They also coincide with the celebration of the 24th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), which was reflected clearly in hymns and slogans repeated by the Saharawi citizens during the demonstrations.
