(...) Western Sahara
Christopher Ross, the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, will travel to North Africa from 20 March to 3 April.  The current conflict in Mali and the heightened risks of instability and insecurity in the Sahel and beyond make a solution to the Western Sahara conflict more urgent than ever.
 Within the framework of his mandate and successive resolutions of the Security Council, the purpose of Mr. Ross’s trip is to prepare for the next phase in the negotiating process and a possible resumption of direct talks to achieve “a mutually acceptable political solution, which will provide for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara”.
To this end, Mr. Ross will hold discussions with the parties to the Western Sahara negotiations, Morocco and the Frente Polisario, and visit Western Sahara.  He will also hold consultations with the neighbouring States, Algeria and Mauritania.

L’Envoyé personnel du Secrétaire général pour le Sahara occidental, M. Christopher Ross, se rendra en Afrique du Nord du 20 mars au 3 avril.
Le conflit actuel au Mali et les risques accrus d’instabilité et d’insécurité au Sahel et au-delà rendent une solution au conflit du Sahara occidental plus urgente que jamais.
Dans le cadre de son mandat et des différentes résolutions du Conseil de sécurité, le but du voyage de M. Ross est de préparer la prochaine étape dans le processus de négociation et une éventuelle reprise des pourparlers directs en vue de parvenir à une « solution politique mutuellement acceptable, qui devra assurer l’exercice du droit à l’autodétermination du peuple du Sahara occidental ».
À cette fin, M. Ross mènera des discussions avec les parties aux négociations sur le Sahara occidental, le Maroc et le Front Polisario, et se rendra au Sahara occidental.  Il tiendra également des consultations avec les États voisins, l’Algérie et la Mauritanie.
