THE SAHARAWI HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST AMINATOU HAIDAR IN DENMARK
Copenhagen, 12 march 2007:
The prominent Saharawi Human Rights activist
and former political prisoner, Aminattou Haidar visits Denmark to raise
the awareness of the international public opinion about the grave human
rights abuses perpetrated by the Moroccan authorities against the
Saharawi population in the occupied territories of Western
Sahara. Aminattou Haidar was received at the Danish Ministry of
Foreign Affaires by the Department of Middle East and North Africa as
well as by the Human Rights Department. She took the opportunity to
express to the Danish Government the appreciation of the Saharawi
people to the latest Danish proposal in the Security Council of the UN
concerning the extension of the Minurso’s mandate to include the
protection of the Human Rights in the occupied Territories of Western
Sahara.
She was received also by The Danish Institute for Human Rights, Amnesty
International (Denmark Section), the International Rehabilitation
Council for Torture Victims, Danish Women Organisations, Political
parties, Parliamentarian Groups and the Danish Media. Aminattou, during
her meetings has unveiled the real face of the Moroccan atrocities
committed against the Saharawi people during three decades of the
illegal occupation of Western Sahara.
